Chip woke up and saw that Ted was gone!
He looked at the ground. There were some sticks close together, the he realized they were letters!
They said This: HELP ME! ^. The arrow was pointing North. Ted must have been KIDNAPPED!
He would have to find out where Ted was. Then rescue him for the second time!
END CHAPTER SIX
Notes: I was clearly getting bored with the whole 'adventuring across countryside' thing, given this chapters length. I'm sure I just had Ted get kidnapped because I wanted something for Chip to do beyond walking.
If this is not the case, then I definitely got bored with writing HELP ME in block lettering - look at that first picture. Ten year-old Phil clearly got sick of it all after doing 'H'
There is the slight possibility this entire 'walking' sequence wasn't so much inspired by my own playing with toys in the back garden, but by The Animals of Farthing Wood. Very quick research puts the series (books, cartoon and comics) around the 1992-1994 period, so I wonder if I was inspired (ripping off) their idea of animals boldly setting forth across unknown lands? I was a huge fan of the series, and it wouldn't surprise me if this influenced me in my writing.
